Regularly Scheduled Cleanings
Regularly scheduled professional cleanings, also known as prophylaxis, are essential to your oral health. When a dental hygienist cleans your teeth every six months, your mouth gets the kind of thorough attention that you can’t possibly give it at home.
Our dental hygienists are able to access all areas of your mouth, especially those that are tough for you to reach on your own. With a gentle touch, our hygienists are skilled and experienced in using dental instruments to remove the plaque, tartar, and bacteria that collect along the teeth. Not removing these three can lead to gingivitis which is the inflammation of the gums due to the presence of plaque, tartar, and/or bacteria.
After the cleaning is complete, your dental hygienist will polish your teeth to make sure your smile sparkles. When you leave our office, not only will your teeth be cleaner, they’ll be brighter, too.
Plaque and tartar contains harmful bacteria that can damage the teeth and gums, causing cavities and periodontal disease, among other problems. If your dental professional intervene every six months, you should be able to keep the bacteria under control.
Oral Hygiene at Home
In addition to the cleanings that takes place in our office, we can work with patients to plan home oral hygiene routines that will keep their teeth free from decay and disease. Twice-daily brushing and daily flossing are cornerstones in any such regimen.
We can provide supplies, like new manual toothbrushes and floss threaders, to help you complete your daily oral hygiene tasks or make recommendations for other useful equipment, such as electric toothbrushes and water piks.
Has it been more than six months since your last professional dental cleaning? If so, contact our office as soon as possible to request an appointment and get back on track with your six-month schedule.
